Beautifully made Globe from its wooden frame to the glass hand blown globe with finely grafted map of the world. The Globe can be turned when it is cradled in its wooden frame. This is the ultimate present for not only lovers of Grappa but, fine Italian craftsmanship.
That grappa is exclusively Italian according to culture, tradition and law. European regulation 1576/89 stipulates that only Italian brandy with its unmistakable speciality may be called "grappa". The Italian state has also laid down detailed standards for production and labelling in Decree 297/97. One of the basic conditions is that the grapes must be produced, pressed and distilled exclusively in Italy. In fact, the designation and labelling "Grappa" is reserved for a product 100% made in Italy - everything else is called Aquavit.
Grappa di Amarone offers a unique tasting experience, influenced by the rich, dried grapes used in Amarone wine production. This grappa is known for its intensity and depth, with flavors that mirror the complex profile of Amarone della Valpolicella.

Tasting Notes:

  • Appearance: Clear if unaged; it may develop a golden hue if aged in wood.

  • Nose: Rich and aromatic, with notes of dried dark fruits such as cherry, raisin, and plum. There are often hints of dried fig, dates, and almonds, along with subtle earthy tones and a light floral bouquet.

  • Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with prominent flavors of ripe dark fruit, particularly cherry and blackberry. Sweet, dried fruit notes are balanced by a touch of spice and pepper, giving warmth and depth. If aged, you may also find hints of vanilla, oak, and caramel.

  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering notes of dried fruits and spices, and occasionally a hint of toasted nuts or cocoa, depending on the ageing process.

Grappa di Amarone is best enjoyed slowly to savour its layered flavours, often served neat after a meal as a digestif.

Distillery History:

Grappa di Amarone is a type of Italian grappa made specifically from the pomace of grapes used in the production of Amarone della Valpolicella, a famed red wine from Italy’s Veneto region. Grappa, a traditional Italian spirit distilled from the solid remains of winemaking, takes on a distinct character when made from Amarone grapes, known for their intense flavors due to the unique appassimento process (drying grapes before fermentation) used in Amarone wine production.

Key Points in Grappa di Amarone’s History:

  1. Origins and Grappa Tradition:

    • The practice of making grappa has ancient roots in Italy, with records of pomace distillation dating back to medieval times. Originally, grappa production was a way for winemakers to maximize the use of their harvest.
    • Amarone wine itself emerged in the early 20th century, but its origins go back centuries to Recioto della Valpolicella, a sweet wine made from dried grapes.
  2. Development of Grappa di Amarone:

    • With the rise in popularity of Amarone in the 1950s and 60s, distillers began experimenting with using Amarone’s unique pomace for grappa production, yielding a richer and more complex grappa that reflects the flavors of the dried Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes used in Amarone.
    • Grappa di Amarone’s profile is distinguished by intense flavors, with notes of dark fruit, dried cherry, plum, spice, and a hint of almond, offering a deeper taste than other varieties of grappa.
  3. Modern Craftsmanship and Popularity:

    • As the quality of grappa production improved throughout the 20th century, Grappa di Amarone became popular for its refined, full-bodied profile. Traditional Italian distilleries, particularly those in Veneto, began producing premium versions, often aged in wooden barrels to enhance depth and complexity.
    • By the late 20th century, Grappa di Amarone was recognized as a premium spirit and became a staple offering in Italian distilleries, known for pairing well with desserts and enjoyed as a post-meal digestif.

Today, Grappa di Amarone holds a special place in Italy's spirit landscape, celebrated for its craftsmanship, depth of flavor, and ties to the unique terroir and winemaking traditions of the Valpolicella region.
